Majesty

Is it more than a word, or is it just a title given to royalty?  Majesty is often bestowed upon men or women who are of noble or royal bloodlines. It doesn’t describe what they do in as much as it describes who they are ancestrally.

Webster’s 1828 dictionary defines Majesty like this:
MAJ'ESTY, noun [Latin majestas, from the root of magis, major, more, greater.]
Greatness of appearance; dignity; grandeur; dignity of aspect or manner; the quality or state of a person or thing which inspires awe or reverence in the beholder; applied with peculiar propriety to God and his works.

How is Majesty described in scripture?

Psalm 93:1 (NIRV)
1 The Lord rules.
He puts on majesty as if it were clothes.
The Lord puts on majesty and strength.
Indeed, the world has been set in place.
    It is firm and secure.

The first thing that we notice in the above scripture is than the Lord is described as a ruler, He reigns in His majesty and strength.  I think it's interesting that it says “The Lord puts on majesty and strength”. In a way it is like us, we do not wear the same clothes every day, but put on fresh clothing before we start our day.
In like manner, as the Lord puts on majesty and strength, we are told to put on Christ afresh everyday.
Romans 13:13-14 (NIRV)
13 Let us act as we should, like people living in the daytime. Have nothing to do with wild parties, and don’t get drunk. Don’t take part in sexual sins or evil conduct. Don’t fight with each other or be jealous of anyone. 14 Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ as if he were your clothing. Don’t think about how to satisfy sinful desires.

Whereas Christ Jesus is clothed in Majesty and strength, when we clothe ourselves in Him we are clothed in the glory of His majesty.  That is because we were bought with a price, the cost of His sacrifice and death on the cross. We are not our own...we belong to Him.  His glory fills us and transforms us into the likeness of His Majesty.

Galatians 3:26-27 (NIRV)
26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God by believing in Christ. 27 This is because all of you who were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. You have put him on as if he were your clothes.

Another thing to consider is we need to put on Christ afresh every day and not live in the blessings of yesterday, but receive the blessings for the present day.  In the Lord’s prayer it says this:

Matthew 6:11 (NIRV)
11 Give us today our daily bread.

As we need food every day, so we need the bread of life which is Christ Jesus, and be clothed in Him.  Christ Jesus being analogous with bread is amazing because it describes something you take into your body. As you chew it and swallow it, it becomes part of the sustaining nourishment of your body.

When we take in the Word of God and deeply consider its meaning for us (we chew on it) and as we receive it into our inner being it has a transformative nature (sustaining nourishment) to our souls.  It is that way because it is actually Christ Jesus Himself who is the Word of God.

John 1:14 (NKJV)
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

In the above scripture the word  'among' is the Greek word “EN”.
In Vines expository dictionary it explains “EN”:
"En, 'in,' is the most common preposition. It has several meanings, e.g., 'of place' (e.g., Hebrews 1:3, lit., 'on the right hand,' i.e., in the position), and time.”

The scripture could easily be rendered “And the word became flesh and dwelt in us,” which does not violate any of the other passages where Paul was writing that “...Christ dwells within you”

Colossians 1:27 (YLT)
27 to whom God did will to make known what [is] the riches of the glory of this secret among the nations -- which is Christ in you, the hope of the glory

So what does all of this have to do with Majesty?  The short answer is everything!  Glory is the resulting luminescence or radiance emanating from His Majesty.  When we behold His Majesty, we are caught in the awareness that the supernatural has come to us.  God does live in a spiritual dimension and yet He desires to interact with us on a natural more personal level.

It is amazing that God’s glory is proclaimed to fill the entire earth, and yet it is His majesty that everything emanates from.

My prayer for you today is that you would encounter the Majesty of the Lord in His fullness, and His glory would fill your entire being with the transforming life and power of Christ Jesus.

Part of our walk with the Lord is to recognize that we cannot do this Christ centered walk on our own. We need more of Him and others to encounter us and speak into our lives. It is Christ Jesus alone that gives life.

Blessings to you!

Give Me More
Words and Music by:  Kevin Benson

I am waiting
I am longing for
You to touch me
And give me more

Give me more, more of You
Give me more, more of You

In my secret
In my quiet place
You can touch me
And give me more

Give me more, more of You
Give me more, more of You
Give me more, more of You
Give me more, more of You

Hear my cry Lord
It’s You I’m longing for
I am willing
Jesus give me more ...

Give me more, more of You
Give me more, more of You
