Jesus is
known as the “word”, and He always existed.
That is a tough concept to put one’s head around.
Jesus even though He became a man was always
with God before creation came into existence.
In fact, in the book of Genesis it says that God spoke the word and began
creating the world as we know it, for the Word was God.
The word had a creative presence that brought
life to everything He imagined, one translation calls Him “The Living Expression”
of God, we call Him Jesus.
Though
separated from God as an entity unto Himself when He emptied Himself of all divinity and became a man, He was also still uniquely
God at the same time.
We serve a
God who is great, and infinitely powerful and wise, Jesus brought balance to
the universe with each and every living thing spoke from this mind of God.
It is stunning to consider the complexity of
creation and how each and everything is balanced from the air we breathe down to
the content of salt in the world’s oceans, there is a balance that promotes
life, and it is Jesus that brought all of this together and keeps it together
by His spoken word.
I have heard
it said that there is power in words we speak, the ability to bless and to curse
lies within the tongue.
Your words are so powerful that they
will kill or give life, and the talkative person will reap the consequences.
Proverbs 18:21 (TPT)
Scripture
declares that life and death are in the power of the tongue. What we speak we
shall have, therefore, we must be cautious and mindful of the words we speak
especially to ourselves so that we are only speaking from the affections of God, and
not speaking self-deprecating words that do not inspire and build up.
When we look into the mirror who do we see? Do we see someone who doesn’t measure up to
our own expectations of who God made us to be?
Or do we see a reflection of Jesus who is working in us to change us
into His image? We will have what we
proclaim.
I am not a proponent of the “name it and claim it” theology, but I do believe that scripture
is clear that we have the ability to use our tongue to speak from a position of
power to further the purposes of God which promotes life and love.
And never let ugly or hateful words
come from your mouth, but instead let your words become beautiful gifts that
encourage others; do this by speaking words of grace to help them. Ephesians
4:29 (TPT)
Jesus has
the power to create life from the spoken word, so also we have the power to
speak life to others which reveals the love of God. Our words are
incredibly powerful and can build up or tear down, that choice is ours either to be
an agent of God’s love, or continue to spread the lies of our enemy that our words
are meaningless and have no effect.
We all fail in many areas, but especially
with our words. Yet if we’re able to bridle the words we say we are powerful
enough to control ourselves in every way, and that means our character is
mature and fully developed. James 3:2 (TPT)
Words are
incredibly powerful. We can take a stand on knowing and experiencing God’s love
and speak to ourselves and to others from that knowledge. There is a word that describes this kind of
speaking, it is called wisdom. Jesus is
the embodiment of all wisdom in this world.
It finally comes back full circle to the reality of who resides within you.
Living within you is the Christ who
floods you with the expectation of glory! This mystery of Christ, embedded
within us, becomes a heavenly treasure chest of hope filled with the riches of
glory for his people, and God wants everyone to know it! Colossians 1:27 (TPT)
So if Jesus
is living within us then it becomes a priority for us to speak life in
creative ways to others that they may also reap the benefit of His love in their
lives as well as ours.
Have you ever
noticed that when you speak encouraging words of life to others that you also
reap the benefit, we are also encouraged because the life of Christ is
exchanged through us and so our spirit is also built up. Life begets life, that is how the gospel (the Word of God) spreads.
When you speak healing words, you
offer others fruit from the tree of life. But unhealthy, negative words do
nothing but crush their hopes. Proverbs 15:4a (TPT)
May you be one who reflects the heart of Jesus, and continually
be a source of life and healing to others you meet throughout your day.
Be Blessed;
