Only the Blood

This weekend I took a trip to the mountains to meet with other brothers in the faith and to seek the Lord’s face and receive a fresh word from the Lord.  I wasn’t disappointed.  I met with an elder brother in Christ for several hours and we talked about how we pray for the sick in faith and not really get to the core of the problem and see the sick receive healing.  We then began to sense the Holy Spirit leading our thoughts about healing prayer into the direction of Chirst’s Blood.  This is what was revealed.  In Matthew 1: 1-16 it records the specific geneology (or generations) leading to Jesus.  In other words it traces His bloodline.  Here is how it summarizes in verse 17

Matthew 1:17 (GWT)
17 So there were
14 generations from Abraham to David,
14 generations from David until the exile to Babylon,
14 generations from the exile until the Messiah.

This is tracking the bloodline of Jesus 42 generations back to Abraham.  I noted that at Jesus the bloodline record stops.  It stops because we are now in Christ and his bloodline continues through us, surprised?  There have been so many stories that attempt to continue Jesus’ bloodline through the millennia, the Di Vinci Code, Holy Blood, Holy Grail, etc.  Many of these type of stories attempt to track the natural bloodline after Jesus’ death.  That is where they miss the mark and fall so short of what Paul and others were trying to teach us through the Epistles.

Hebrews 9: 11-15 (GWT)
11 But Christ came as a chief priest of the good things that are now here. Christ went through a better, more perfect tent that was not made by human hands and that is not part of this created world. 12 He used his own blood, not the blood of goats and bulls, for the sacrifice. He went into the most holy place and offered this sacrifice once and for all to free us forever.
13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of cows sprinkled on unclean people made their bodies holy and clean. 14 The blood of Christ, who had no defect, does even more. Through the eternal Spirit he offered himself to God and cleansed our consciences from the useless things we had done. Now we can serve the living God.
15 Because Christ offered himself to God, he is able to bring a new promise from God. Through his death he paid the price to set people free from the sins they committed under the first promise. He did this so that those who are called can be guaranteed an inheritance that will last forever.

The scripture says "...once and for all..." that means it is finished, a completed work.  That is God's new promise that we are now the living sacrifice, we are dead to ourselves (our sinful nature) and we are made alive in Christ.  We  have Jesus’ blood sprinkled in our hearts (minds).  To give us a clean conscious and bring healing to our bodies. We are His first fruits, the firstborn of faith.

Colossians 1:18-23 (GWT)
18     He is also the head of the church, which is his body.
    He is the beginning,
the first to come back to life
so that he would have first place in everything.
19 God was pleased to have all of himself live in Christ. 20 God was also pleased to bring everything on earth and in heaven back to himself through Christ. He did this by making peace through Christ’s blood sacrificed on the cross.
21 Once you were separated from God. The evil things you did showed your hostile attitude. 22 But now Christ has brought you back to God by dying in his physical body. He did this so that you could come into God’s presence without sin, fault, or blame.

What is the inheritance spoken of?  We have received an incredibility amazing gift, sonship through Christs’ blood.  The growth or expansion of the Kingdom of God in our present world is directly tied to this fact.  If we have received our freedom in Christ as a free gift of God, then how much more should we be willing to give it away freely!  First to our families and then to our neighbors.  This isn’t from preaching or teaching alone, it is first and foremost through prayer.  This is God’s Kingdom, and he must draw people to himself, our first priority and posture is to pray, then to listen for His voice, and then to obey.

Lord, I am so grateful for your faithfulness.  I pray for my family, sprinkle your blood over my family and cover them with your grace.  Lord use what you have given me and work that into the lives of my family members, that they may receive your mercy and healing in their lives also.  Draw my family toward your voice, that they may know you more fully and love you as I do.  I also ask that your Kingdom may extend to the people in my neighborhood and workplace.  I thank you for the power of your blood sprinkled in my heart, now use this same blood to begin the work of drawing and calling my neighbors and coworkers to yourself.  Bring healing, restoration and salvation.  Speak to my heart Lord and give me opportunities to pray and meet with others.

Thank you Lord for your goodness, and for the power of your blood.

   Only the Blood
        (Brian Doerksen)

Holiness is Your life in me
Making me clean through Your blood
Holiness is Your fire in me
Purging my heart like a flood

        I know You are
        Perfect in holiness
        Your life in me
        Setting me free
        Making me holy

        Only the blood of Jesus
        Covers all of my sin
        Only the life of Jesus
        Renews me from within
        Your blood is enough
        Your mercy complete
        Your work of atonement
        Paid for my debts
        Making me holy

        Only the blood of Jesus
