The context of Psalm 42 is about the
power and majesty of the Lord and how humanity stands before Him.
If we look at this
Psalm prophetically, we can see this in a different light rather than just having
to "measure up" to have a better standing before the
Lord. There is only one person who has "clean hands and a pure
heart," and that is Jesus Christ, He was the only man without sin.
"For there is one God, and there is one
who brings God and human beings together, the man Christ Jesus, who gave
himself to redeem the whole human race. That was the proof at the right time
that God wants everyone to be saved"
1 Timothy 2:5- (GNT)
It says in Psalm
24:5 "...He shall receive the blessing from the Lord and
righteousness from the God of his salvation." David saw that the
man of God would receive "clean hands and a pure heart" from
the Lord, for only the Lord Himself could become that for any man.
It is a picture of the
indwelling Christ living through the man of David's description.
"God's plan is to make known his secret
to his people, this rich and glorious secret which he has for all peoples. And
the secret is that Christ is in you, which means that you will share in the
glory of God."
Colossians 1:27
(GNT)
He then comments
that "This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy
face, O Jacob," David is speaking prophetically about a
generation of people whom the Lord will possess for His own, His unique special
people. It will be a generation of people who will seek Him and know Him, and
they will know His will, and desire His presence above anything
else.
"So above all, constantly chase after the
realm of God's kingdom and the righteousness that proceeds from him. Then all
these less important things will be given to you abundantly.
Matthew 6:33 (TPT)
The writer then
says, "Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye
everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in," he is
speaking of the gates of the mind or soul.
Many have erroneously read this as
somehow getting more of God into our lives, but that is not what it is saying at all, for He is already there in our lives.
Amazingly these gates and doors only open outward as exits. He isn't speaking
about getting more of God into our lives; he is talking about allowing more of
God out of our lives and into our
world.
"God has made us what we are. In Christ
Jesus, God made us to do good works, which God planned in advance for us to
live our lives doing."
Ephesians
2:10 (NCV)
Our Lord is a fighter for love,
a strong and mighty one who controls angel armies and externally fights on our
behalf; He is entering into this world through the portal of our human hearts to show
Himself strong through us, a warrior who fights for our victory that love may always overcome.
He fills us with His presence as He enters into our world through our minds (hearts).
David
defines who this King of glory is: He is "the Lord of Hosts," which
means He is the King over every living creature on earth and in heaven. Specifically, He is King over
all of the spiritual inhabitants that He created in heaven, which are angels,
seraphim, cherubim, rephaim, and all other spiritual beings who occupy the
heavenly realms.
Jesus has fought and won the victory over the rank and file of
the "host" in the spiritual realm who were in
rebellion against Him and stripped them of their power. These spiritual battles also affect matters on the earth
because the natural and spiritual are so closely connected.
As we pray, we are
causing a shift in the outcome of battles we face on earth because we are
affecting spiritual realities by declaring the victory of Jesus.
"Manifest your kingdom realm, and cause
your every purpose to be fulfilled on earth, just as it is fulfilled in
heaven."
Matthew 6:10
(TPT)
Now, regarding the
gates, these are people. For example
In Ezekiel 48, the
city of God has 12 gates, three each facing North, East, West, and South. And
these gates are named after people (the 12 tribes of Israel), each
one is given a direction which reaches out into the furthest corners of the earth to
spread the good news of God's love for His people through the power of Christ
residing in us.
We comprise that city of God, for it resides within us. Take notice of the new
name of the city below.
The Lord said: "The city of Jerusalem
will have twelve gates, three on each of the four sides of the city wall. These
gates will be named after the twelve tribes of Israel. The gates of Reuben,
Judah, and Levi will be in the north; Joseph, Benjamin, and Dan will be in the
east; Simeon, Issachar, and Zebulun will be in the south; Gad, Asher, and
Naphtali will be in the west. Each side of the city wall will be a mile and a
half long, and so the total length of the wall will be six miles. The new name
of the city will be "The-Lord-Is-Here! "
Ezekiel 48:30-35 (CEV)
You are an exit gate for God's spirit and power to flow through you to reach others for Jesus Christ and His kingdom everywhere you go.
Your new name is "The Lord is Here!"
Your new name is "The Lord is Here!"
Jesus is the king of glory!
