Fire on the Alter

Leviticus 9:24 (CEB)
24 Fire flew out from before the Lord and devoured the entirely burned offering and the fat pieces on the altar. All the people saw it. They shouted for joy and fell facedown.

I woke this morning with a vision of myself kneeling and worshiping before the Lord’s throne, and next to me was an alter with a fire burning upon it.  I remember asking the Lord what this alter was all about, He told me that this alter was His fire and it was to consume all of me.

I know that the reason that the Lord brings this to me is so that I can reach a point in my daily journey with Him where this becomes commonplace.    Allowing Him to consume.  The purpose (or work) of the alter is to totally devour and consume.  What is left when the burning is done?  Nothing but ashes!

What were we before God created man?  Nothing but dust!  God can do a lot with dust and ashes.
This process of burning is a dying process, of a living sacrifice.  We allow the fire of God to consume all of our pride, responses and desires so that He can become alive in us.

Isaiah 61:3 (GWT)

            He has sent me
to provide for all those who grieve in Zion,
to give them crowns instead of ashes,
the oil of joy instead of tears of grief,
and clothes of praise instead of a spirit of weakness.

They will be called Oaks of Righteousness,
                                          the Plantings of the Lord,
so that he might display his glory.

I hope you caught that that this is all about Him wanting to show Himself strong through us.  We have little to do with it other than to present our bodies before Him.  He does the rest.

It is amazing to see what God can do with a man who has the faith of God in him, for it is not our faith – it’s God’s faith.  And God lives through that man.

Philippians 2:13 (NASB)
for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

Jesus, Lover of my soul
by Paul Oakey

It's all about You, Jesus
And all this is for You
For Your glory and your fame
It's not about me
As if You should do things my way
You alone are God
And I surrender to your ways

Jesus, lover of my soul
All consuming fire is in Your gaze
Jesus, I want you to know
I will follow you all my days
For no one else in history is like you
And history itself belongs to you
Alpha and Omega, You have loved me
And I will share eternity with You
