"I look to the mountains; where will my help come from?" Psalm 121:1-5

David was consistently being pursued by Saul and his army, not because of any wrong he had done, but because of God’s anointing rested upon David.  Saul had disobeyed God and hardened his heart against the Lord’s desires and God had rejected him, and Saul was jealous of David. So God chose David instead of Saul to be the next King because David’s heart was tender and upright before the Lord, David loved the Lord.

David hid in the hills with a small band of devoted followers to escape Saul’s relentless pursuit of him.
King Saul is a metaphor for the pursuit of our enemy the devil, who is constantly after us.

Be alert, be on watch! Your enemy, the Devil, roams around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.  1 Peter 5:8 (GNT)

The bible never gives us an example to fight with the devil directly, just like David never fought with Saul directly but only blessed the man that the Lord had previously appointed King.  Another example, Michael the Archangel never confronted the devil directly but confronted him only indirectly in the name of the Lord.

Not even the chief angel Michael did this. In his quarrel with the Devil, when they argued about who would have the body of Moses, Michael did not dare condemn the Devil with insulting words, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”  Jude 1:9 (GNT)

David looked far off into the mountains for supernatural help to come alongside him to fight for him in the wake of Saul’s pursuit.  An interesting thing about David’s worship is he always describes God’s attributes, not that God was forgetful or absent-minded about what He could do, but so that David would remember and call upon these attributes to provoke the Lord to respond in kind.  The Lord always delights when we remember what He can do when we call upon His name because it causes us to enlist His faith in embracing the impossible and the supernatural solution which is always couched in love.

When we have encounters or needs which are beyond our abilities, we can call upon the Lord and remember that He is greater and stronger and has unlimited resources to bring about an answer which is beyond our natural abilities and meets us where we are at.

David recognized that God was always available to him, he states that “God never dozes or sleeps” which gave him access to God’s unlimited power at all times.  This translates to us also, we have access to what we are in, we are in Christ who is our resource for dynamic power for every circumstance we face.

Much like David:
Do we remember God’s attributes?
Do we remember what He is capable of?
We can recall what the Lord has done in the past and speak this back to the Lord by faith, not for His benefit, but for ours.

Part of being human is being creative, we have been given a mind which is constantly thinking and developing ways to solve problems as they arise.  It is the creative force that God placed within us to interact with our world.  If we utilize and employ this same creative force in our prayers coupled with the faith we have been given miracles can ensue in unprecedented ways.  God always wants us to release faith in creative ways which demonstrate that our God is a God of power and of love and is sensible.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

David declares that “the Lord will not let you fall” another way to say that is “the Lord will not let you be overrun” the enemy rushes in like flood waters to overwhelm us and take us by surprise, but the Lord will be your strong tower beside you and will protect you and keep you safe in His charge.  It is in those moments that we begin to recall the power of our God and what He is able to do and begin speaking the attributes of God by faith and proclaiming victory over the enemy and that the life of Christ will prevail in us and in our situation.

The battle is always the Lord’s battle, it is not ours to fight, the battle is only ours to stand with assurance proclaiming the Lord’s victory.

Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship.
Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.
Romans 12:1-2 (TPT)

That is why were are called priests unto the Lord, not fighters of the enemy.  I believe it is when we stand in this awareness that we are precious unto the Lord and He can bring His Kingdom to bear in our lives to such a degree that we can become an unstoppable force of change for Christ in this natural world.
Be Blessed;
