"..God's word is something to sing about.." Psalm 33:4-5 (TPT)

I have been exploring the Psalms lately and finding that David knew his God personally and intimately in a way that surpasses our experience.

It is incredible to me that even without the revelation of Jesus, David knew the love of God to such a degree that he could write so many songs about his love-relationship with God the Father.

David would go to the temple and worship God in unique ways different than the traditionally accepted forms of worship set by the teachers or rabbi's of his day. He encouraged musical instruments in worship; he also encouraged shouting God’s praises with earnest intensity within the congregation; he also encouraged dancing before the Lord.

David was a Man of songs (Psalms), many of the songs that he and others wrote take on a prophetic description of what God would do in the future (14 generations later-490 years) when He came to the earth as Christ Jesus.

I said in other posts that David was a type and a shadow of Jesus and what was to come. God used David as a living example to show Isreal what a true lover of God would look like, even though David eventually became the king of Israel, God wanted to demonstrate that we are all kings and priests before the Lord just like David.

“But you are God’s chosen treasure—priests who are kings, a spiritual “nation” set apart as God’s devoted ones. He called you out of darkness to experience his marvelous light, and now he claims you as his very own. He did this so that you would broadcast his glorious wonders throughout the world.”
1 Peter 2:9 (TPT)

Much like David, we are that chosen treasure, a spiritual nation which has been set apart from the world at large, to be His devoted ones.

We have been called out to have Him abide in us that He may transform us to be like Him, that is the chosen treasure. We are the treasure that Jesus died for to redeem.

The Lord Jesus has set us aside for intimacy with Him to hear His words of love and affection for us. We have been given personal songs to sing by God which tell of His great mercy toward us, Jesus puts the song in our heart.

“A new song for a new day rises up in me every time I think about how he breaks through for me! Ecstatic praise pours out of my mouth until everyone hears how God has set me free. Many will see his miracles; they’ll stand in awe of God and fall in love with him!”   Psalm 40:3 (TPT)

We have so much in Christ Jesus, even though we are His treasure, He is also our treasure, it's reciprocal!

Each of us builds our foundation of faith in Christ on something, whether it is a religious philosophy or myth, rejection or outright denial, we all build our beliefs on something.

“The quality of materials used by anyone building on this foundation will soon be made apparent, whether it has been built with gold, silver, and costly stones, or wood, hay, and straw. Their work will soon become evident, for the Day will make it clear, because it will be revealed by blazing fire! And the fire will test and prove the workmanship of each builder.”
1 Corinthians 3:12-13 (TPT)

What Paul is speaking of here regarding by building with “gold, silver, and costly stones” is what God is building within you to transform you to into the character of Christ Jesus. For when Jesus looks at us, He is looking for a reflection of Himself, not what we have done for Him but what He has done through us and to us.

These buildings are built from the wealth of a King, not from the efforts of a servant.

When ancient Egypt was building their cities, they used enslaved Jews to build their palaces and temples. All of these buildings collapsed over time and were forgotten, but what our God builds in our lives will not crumble nor collapse for these buildings are eternal and will never be forgotten, for He will not be forgotten.

As an example, I woke up this morning with a song in my spirit that I couldn’t shake, it was a song that describes Jesus being our redeemer and our treasure, I ended up singing it over and over again. It is called “What a Love” by Nigel Briggs, and is included as part of this blog post.

I am sure that David had similar instances when the spirit of God stirred him about the nuances of God’s love for him. I could see David singing this song.  I have included other links in this post to give more examples of how God puts the song in our hearts to sing of His love.

My prayer for you today is that the Holy Spirit would stir you with a song from the heart of Jesus, and reveal His love for you in profound ways that take you into a deeper in a love-relationship with Him, just like He did with David.

Be Blessed;
Stephen Barnett
