My Daily Bread

                Deuteronomy 8:1-3 (NASB)
“All the commandments that I am commanding you today you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the Lord swore to give to your forefathers. You shall remember all the way which the Lord your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years, that He might humble you, testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.

I was inspired this morning by a worship leader whom I admire, who stopped in the middle of his worship set and waited on the Lord.  As he strummed his guitar slowly for several moments, he finally sang these words worshipful in descending scales
:
“I woke up this morning
with a noise in my head;
to call out to you
for my daily bread.”

Simple words no doubt.  But this was an extemporaneous statement declaring his need to hear from God.  Oh the noise we oftentimes fill our heads with in the mornings, from TV news, news radio, music, even Christian music.  We fill that space between our ears in our ‘temple’ with the noise clutter of the world, when the only thing God wants to do is to come and reside in His temple.

1 Corinthians 6 19-20 (GWT)
Don’t you know that your body is a temple that belongs to the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit, whom you received from God, lives in you. You don’t belong to yourselves.   You were bought for a price. So bring glory to God in the way you use your body.

I for one am the biggest offender.  I have spent years avoiding quiet time with God in the mornings, due in part to my hectic schedule and also the fear of becoming vulnerable before the Lord before going to work.  But God has been gracious and has given me a few minutes in the mornings to journal my thoughts and express my heart to Him.

John 6: 27 (GWT)
Don’t work for food that spoils. Instead, work for the food that lasts into eternal life. This is the food the Son of Man will give you. After all, the Father has placed his seal of approval on him.”

Lord, I give you control of my life today to use me and bring about your purposes in me.  May you provide opportunities today that help others and extend your kingdom where others desperately need your touch.  Help me to have a hearing heart, and increase my desire to know you more fully.

Lord, thank you for my daily bread!

I Want To Know You

Words and Music by
Brian Doerksen and Cindy Rethmeier

I want to know you
Lord I must know you
I want to be found in you
I want to be clothed in your truth

So I fix my eyes on you
Lord I must see you
I put my faith in you
I spend my life on you

I want to know you
I want to know you
I want to love you
I want to know you more
Jesus, Jesus
